WHO IS MISSIONSMART?

Purpose
The idea behind MissionSmart is to provide a single point of contact for anyone interested in Christian missions education, missions mobilization, and missions involvement. The focus is on providing individuals, small groups, and churches with the tools they need to assess their missions efforts, to generate ideas and plan a balanced approach to missions, and to find the resources they need to make their missions plans successful.

History
A group of experienced missions planners felt the need for a set of tools to help churches evaluate and plan their missions involvement. They envisioned a library of tried and proven ideas, some planning tools, and a single catalog of missions education resources from a diverse set of publishers and agencies. They enlisted other leaders and sought the help of a well-established missions organization. The MissionSmart Web site was released June, 2001.

Partnership
MissionSmart is the result of a cooperative effort between Baptist state conventions, state WMU organizations, International Mission Board, New Hope Publishers, North American Mission Board Education Team, and WMU, auxiliary to Southern Baptist Convention. About half the development funds have come from the states' WMU conventions, and about half from national WMU. National WMU has also provided project management and will provide ongoing administration of the Web site. To fulfill its goal, MissionSmart will continue to welcome new partners to contribute new ideas and opportunities and new resources beyond the initial set.
